Replacing A Horton Automatic Door Opener

Replacing A Horton Automatic Door Opener

Horton Automatics manufactures the 7000 Series and 4000 Series automatic door openers. These automatic door operators can be found in commercial buildings all around the USA. But what if you want to replace these automatic door openers with a different model. Maybe your maintenance team has difficulty adjusting the door openers or making repairs. Whatever your reason may be, in this article we explain step by step how to replace Horton automatic door openers.

Identify Your Horton Automatic Door Arm Type

Horton automatic door openers typically surface mounted, meaning that the header enclosure mounts to the top of the door frame. An outswing push arm is typically used, however an inswing pull arm with track may be used. Identify what type of arm is used, outswing or inswing, as we will be replacing the Horton automatic door opener with the Commander automatic door opener with the same hand and arm type.

Identify If The Horton Activation Switches Are Wireless

Most Horton automatic door installations use wireless handicap buttons with a 9 volt battery and transmitter. Open the handicap button to check if they are wireless (have a transmitter) or hardwired (no transmitter). The handicap face plate can be removed by loosening the concealed allen screws, or by removing the screw located at the bottom of the mounting box.

Remove Power

Carefully remove the header cover on the Horton automatic door opener by removing all of the screws located at the bottom of the header. Be sure to hold on to the cover as you do this, so that it does not fall. Next identify the main power and disconnect it from the controller. If the handicap buttons were wireless, then there should be a receiver module. Disconnect the receiver module. If the handicap buttons were hardwired then remove the switch wires from the Horton C4190 controller.

Remove Horton Door Opener

Remove the Horton door arm from the gearbox and door. Then remove the controller, motor/gearbox, etc. Once all Horton components are removed, then remove the header enclosure.

Install New Automatic Door Opener

The next step is to install the Commander automatic door operator. Be sure to use the same arm type (outswing or inswing) and handing that the Horton automatic door opener was. The Commander automatic door opener is non-handed and can be used in any configuration, however the correct arm (outswing or inswing) must be noted at the time of purchase.

It's worth noting that the Commander automatic door opener is a heavy duty unit with all certifications so that it can be installed in any commercial building. It is UL Listed, fire rated, and manufactured in the USA. No matter your door type: hollow metal, commercial steel, commercial glass, or wood, the Commander automatic door opener is designed for easy installation. Be sure to reconnect the receiver module or handicap button switches to the Commander automatic door opener.

Benefits Of Replacement

Lower Cost Of Ownership

Have you ever had a door where you keep having to repair it? If you aren't repairing it yourself, then you are having to pay for a repair company each time which includes travel time, labor, and other miscellaneous charges. Many building owners who have their own on staff maintenance crews know that constant repairs can nickel and dime you. Sometimes the best solution is to go with a new type of automatic door opener.

Easy To Install

When we say easy, we mean easy. If your a building owner and you just don't understand how to fix your current automatic door opener system, then you need the the Commander automatic door opener. The controller is self tuning making installation and adjustment easy. Many door openers feature all types of adjustment potentiometers making any tune in or adjustment extremely sensitive and difficult.
