This package is specifically designed for existing hollow metal doors equipped with a commercial cylindrical lock or cylindrical lever lock. A conventional cylindrical latch remains engaged with the frame when the door is closed, preventing an automatic operator from opening the door until that latch is released.
The included cylindrical lock electric strike solves that problem by electronically releasing the existing latch before the Maverick HA8LP begins opening the door.
This allows the existing hollow metal door to remain latched when closed while providing automatic unlocking every time the automatic door system is activated.
At the heart of the package is the Maverick HA8LP Low Profile Automatic Door Operator, our standard-duty commercial operator designed for the majority of automatic door applications and doors weighing up to 300 lbs.
The HA8LP combines a compact 4-1/8" x 5-1/8" low-profile header, a 1/8 HP electromechanical motor, high-precision gearing, an aluminum-alloy gearbox, heavy-duty sealed bearings and a digital control system.
Important: This is an automatic door opener retrofit package. The hollow metal door, hollow metal frame and cylindrical lock / lever are not included. The Maverick HA8LP, cylindrical lock electric strike and wireless handicap activation components are included as described below.
This package provides the major automatic door and locking components needed to add automatic operation to a compatible existing hollow metal door with cylindrical locking hardware.
Not Included: Hollow metal door, hollow metal frame, cylindrical lever lock, hinges, pivots or other commercial door hardware unless specifically stated otherwise.
If your existing hollow metal door already has a commercial cylindrical lock or lever set, you may not need to remove the lock or replace the entire opening just to add automatic operation.
The existing cylindrical lock remains part of the door.
The included electric strike is installed at the latch location in the hollow metal frame and provides the electronic release required for automatic opening.
When automatic access is requested, the strike releases the existing cylindrical latch first. The Maverick HA8LP can then automatically open the door without someone manually turning the lever.
A standard cylindrical lock uses a latchbolt that engages the strike in the hollow metal frame. This provides normal latching and locking operation, but it also creates a problem when an automatic door operator is added.
The automatic operator cannot open the door while the cylindrical latch remains engaged.
The latch must be released before the automatic operator begins trying to move the door.
The included cylindrical lock electric strike provides the electronic release required for automatic door operation.
Instead of modifying or removing the existing cylindrical lock, the electric strike releases the point where the latch engages the frame.
When the automatic door system receives an activation signal, the electric strike releases first.
The Maverick HA8LP can then begin its automatic opening cycle.
After the door closes, the existing cylindrical latch can return to the electric strike, allowing the opening to return to its normal latched condition.
This is the primary advantage of this package.
Your existing cylindrical lock can continue to provide normal mechanical latching while the included electric strike provides the electronic release needed for automatic operation.
The automatic sequence is simple:
Press the handicap button. The electric strike releases. The Maverick HA8LP opens the door. After closing, the cylindrical latch can re-engage.
