Ranger HD Left Hand Medium Stile Aluminum Storefront Door and Frame Package for Exterior Wood Stud Walls

The Ranger HD Medium Stile architectural aluminum storefront entrance systemis designed for installation in exterior wood stud wall openings used in commercial offices, retail buildings, restaurants, medical facilities, churches, mixed-use developments, and other light commercial construction projects.

Designed for moderate to heavy pedestrian traffic and increased abuse environments, the Ranger HD Medium Stile door features 3-1/2-inch vertical stiles, a 3-1/4-inch top rail, and a 10-inch ADA bottom rail. Its wider aluminum rails provide increased rigidity, improved hardware support, and greater resistance to twisting, flexing, and daily commercial abuse.

The door is constructed from 6063 architectural aluminum with reinforced corner blocks and welded construction for increased strength and dependable commercial performance.

This complete exterior entrance package includes a heavy-duty closed-back aluminum frame, factory pre-glazed insulated tempered safety glass, Grade 1 commercial hardware, an ADA lock indicator, an adjustable commercial hydraulic door closer, full-perimeter pile weather seals, a low-profile threshold, and a commercial bottom sweep.

The closed-back storefront frame is intended to be securely anchored to a properly reinforced wood-framed rough opening. The surrounding wall assembly may include structural wood studs, engineered wood framing, exterior sheathing, a weather-resistive barrier, continuous insulation, flashing, and the selected exterior cladding system.

Made in the USA with an approximate 3–4 week production time.

Ranger HD Medium Stile Storefront Entrance for Exterior Wood Stud Walls

The Ranger HD Medium Stile storefront entrance is designed for exterior commercial wall assemblies where a standard 2-inch narrow stile door may not provide enough strength for the expected traffic level, hardware requirements, or operating environment.

The 3-1/2-inch vertical stiles provide additional aluminum around the lock, pivots, hinges, closer, and other operating hardware. This creates a stronger and more rigid door assembly that is better suited for frequent operation and increased physical abuse.

A 3-1/4-inch top rail provides increased support at the top of the door, while the standard 10-inch bottom rail strengthens the lower portion of the door and provides a smooth lower surface for accessibility applications.

The included heavy-duty closed-back aluminum frame is designed to be installed into a properly framed and reinforced exterior wood stud rough opening. Structural jamb framing, headers, blocking, anchors, fasteners, flashing, and perimeter sealants must be selected according to the project design and installation conditions.

The result is a durable architectural aluminum entrance that maintains the clean appearance of a commercial glass storefront while providing increased strength for demanding exterior commercial applications.

Designed for Exterior Wood Stud Construction

Exterior wood stud construction is commonly used in light commercial, mixed-use, retail, office, restaurant, and residential-commercial buildings. Wood framing provides a versatile wall system that can accommodate many exterior finishes, insulation packages, and architectural designs.

For this application, the storefront frame is installed within a properly reinforced wood-framed rough opening. The framing around the entrance must be designed to support the storefront frame, door weight, closer forces, operating loads, wind loads, and repeated use of the entrance.

Typical exterior wood stud wall assemblies may include:

  • Dimensional lumber wall studs
  • Engineered wood framing members
  • King studs and jack studs at each jamb
  • Structural wood headers
  • Wood blocking surrounding the storefront opening
  • Plywood or oriented strand board structural sheathing
  • Exterior glass-mat gypsum sheathing
  • Weather-resistive barriers
  • Commercial building wrap
  • Flashing and waterproofing membranes
  • Sill pans and sill flashing
  • Continuous exterior insulation
  • Backer rod and commercial perimeter sealant
  • Brick veneer
  • Stone veneer
  • EIFS or synthetic stucco systems
  • Traditional stucco systems
  • Metal wall panels
  • Fiber cement siding or panels
  • Architectural exterior cladding systems

Wood framing, structural reinforcement, sheathing, building wrap, flashing, insulation, waterproofing, and exterior cladding are not included with the storefront entrance package unless specifically stated.

Narrow Stile vs. Medium Stile vs. Wide Stile Storefront Doors

Ranger HD storefront entrances are available in Narrow Stile, Medium Stile, and Wide Stile configurations. The proper stile width should be selected based on the expected pedestrian traffic, abuse level, hardware requirements, and building application.

Typical Applications Retail stores, offices, restaurants, and standard commercial entrancesBusy retail stores, office buildings, medical facilities, churches, municipal buildings, industrial facilities, and other demanding commercial entrances Institutions, schools, universities, government buildings, transportation facilities, and other heavy-traffic or heavy-abuse environments
Recommended Use Applications where a slim profile and standard commercial durability are preferredApplications requiring more strength than a narrow stile door without the larger profile of a wide stile door Applications requiring maximum durability and resistance to heavy traffic and abuse

The Medium Stile configuration provides an excellent balance between the slim appearance of a Narrow Stile door and the maximum strength of a Wide Stile door.

Why Choose a Medium Stile Storefront Door?

A Medium Stile storefront door is an excellent choice when a commercial entrance requires more strength than a traditional narrow stile door but does not require the larger rails of a wide stile institutional entrance.

  • Increased Vertical Stile Width:The 3-1/2-inch vertical stiles provide greater rigidity and more aluminum around the door hardware.
  • Stronger Top Rail:The 3-1/4-inch top rail provides increased support at the top of the door.
  • Improved Hardware Support:Wider rails provide increased support for commercial locks, pivots, hinges, closers, panic devices, and access-control hardware.
  • Reduced Door Flex:The larger rails help reduce twisting and flexing during frequent operation.
  • Better Abuse Resistance:Medium Stile construction is better suited for entrances that may experience carts, equipment, frequent deliveries, or rough daily use.
  • Balanced Appearance:The Medium Stile design provides increased strength without the larger visual profile of a Wide Stile door.
  • Commercial Durability:Designed for moderate to heavy pedestrian traffic and demanding commercial environments.
