How To Replace A Stanley Automatic Door Opener

How To Replace A Stanley Automatic Door Opener

Stanley Access Technologies is well known for their Magic Access, Magic Force, and Magic Swing automatic door openers. But what if you are having issues with these products and you want to replace them? In this article we explain how to replace any type of Stanley automatic door opener: Magic Access, Magic Force, or Magic Swing.

Identify Your Stanley Automatic Door Arm Type

Most Stanley automatic door installations are low energy surface mounted applications. This means that the header enclosure of the automatic door opener is surface mounted to the top of the door frame. An outswing or inswing arm is used. Identify which one is used.

Identify If The Stanley Activation Switches Are Wireless

Also, handicap buttons are most likely installed near the automatic door opener. Open the handicap button switch by removing either the allen screws concealed inside of the face plate, or the screw located at the bottom of the mounting box. Check to see if the handicap button is wireless (has a battery operated transmitter) or hardwired with no transmitter.

Remove Power

Open the Stanley automatic door header cover by removing the screws at the bottom of the header. Be sure to hold on to the header cover as you do this, so it does not fall on anyone. Next, locate the main power to the controller and disconnect. If the handicap buttons were wireless (had a transmitter) there will be a receiver module inside of the header. Carefully remove it. If the handicap buttons were hardwired simply remove the wires from the switch out of the Stanley controller terminals.

Remove Stanley Door Opener

Next, remove the door arm from the operator. Disconnect the controller from the motor. Remove the Stanley motor/gearbox, controller, etc. Finally, remove the Stanley automatic door header.

Install New Automatic Door Opener

Next, install the new Commander automatic door operator to the door. Be sure to match the same arm type and door hand configuration as the Stanley automatic door operator. Note that the Commander automatic door opener is UL Listed and Fire Rated. It is also designed for installation on all commercial door types including wood doors, storefront doors, steel doors, hollow metal doors, and more. So you don't have to worry about the Commander being suitable for the door type since it can be used on 99% of all commercial doors. Be sure to reconnect the original handicap buttons to the Commander controller.

Benefits Of Replacement

Lower Cost Of Ownership

Many building owners operate under the impression that fixing what's there is the best solution, however when it comes to automatic door openers this is not always the case. If you have a problem door and keep throwing money and replacement parts at it, but it continues to fail, the best solution is to replace the unit with a new type of door opener.

Easy To Install

The Commander automatic door opener is unlike anything on the market today. It is extremely easy to install, but also very easy to understand. The controller is self tuning, so you don't need a costly hand held device or phone, to adjust 20 different types of functions like other door openers. The simplicity of the controller makes our unit one of the best on the market today.

Made In USA

The Commander is built on durability and functionality. It is manufactured in the USA and is quality you can count on.
