The first step in installing an automatic sliding door is to determine the size of the door. Measure the opening in which the door will be installed to ensure that you purchase the correct size. The rough opening width will always be 1/2” wider than the automatic door exact frame width. Likewise, the rough opening height will always be 1/4” greater than the automatic door frame’s exact frame height. The rough opening should always be slightly larger than the automatic door’s exact frame dimensions to allow for proper operation.

Once you have determined the size of the door, you will need to purchase the necessary hardware. This typically includes the door operator, track, rollers, and any additional accessories such as sensors or switches. Most automatic sliding doors come standard with this hardware, but it is always worth mentioning in order to be sure all components are on hand before beginning the installation process.

Step 2: Electrical Requirements

Automatic sliding doors require 110VAC electrical power to operate. You will need to run electrical wiring to the location where the door will be installed. This may require the assistance of an electrician, depending on your level of expertise.

The door operator controller will typically have a labeled section for main power connection. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for wiring the door operator to ensure that it is done correctly.

Step 3: Frame Installation

The header is the top frame of the door system. It houses the track component that the door slides on as well as all of the electronics, controls, motor/gearbox. Carefully set it in the opening and anchor the jamb tubes to the wall using screws and or bolts. Always be sure the frame is level and plumb before securing to the wall opening. Next, mount the door track. The door track is what secures the bottom of the moving door panels from coming off track.

Step 4: Door Installation

Depending on the model of door, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for hanging the doors. On Maverick automatic sliding door systems the door panels can be attached by sliding the carriage in the top rail of the door and securing with screws. On other Maverick models, the doors utilize a roller system, and the doors must be placed on the top track with the rollers securing the doors onto the track. The rollers are what allow the door to slide along the track. When attaching the rollers to the top of the door be sure the rollers and anti rise rollers are properly aligned in order to ensure that the doors slide smoothly and evenly. This may require some trial and error, but it's important to get the door sliding smoothly and properly aligned with the track before moving on to the next step. Align the bottom guide of the moving panel door with the bottom track. Adjust the bottom guide as necessary.

Step 5: Sensor and Switch Installation

Many automatic sliding doors come equipped with sensors or switches that allow the door to open and close automatically. If your door requires these components, follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation. On Maverick automatic sliding doors the sensors are pre-wired, so simply plug in the new sensors on each side of the automatic door header.

Typically, the door mode switch will need to be wired in. The switch mounts to the interior side of the jamb tube and connects directly to the automatic door master control board.

Step 6: Final Adjustments and Testing

Once all of the components are installed, it's important to perform a final adjustment and testing. Ensure that the door opens and closes smoothly and that it is properly aligned with the track.

Test the door's sensors or switches to ensure that they are working properly. Adjust them as necessary to ensure that the door opens and closes at the appropriate times and with the correct amount of force. Always refer to ANSI requirements and any local requirements when tuning in the automatic sliding door.
