How to Replace A Besam Swingmaster 400 Series Clutch Operator

How to Replace A Besam Swingmaster 400 Series Clutch Operator

A Besam Swingmaster can be one of the more tricky automatic door openers to work on. Here is how to properly replace a Besam Swingmaster motor/gearbox assembly.

Installation For Surface Mounted Models

Before we begin it is very important to note the following:
IMPORTANT: Never remove the thumbturn on the gearbox unless the motor/gearbox is mounted in the header and the door is closed with the arm connected, as explained in Step 3. If you remove the thumbturn with the motor/gearbox out of the header, it will unwind the spring, and cause all of the latch, backcheck, and /or panic cams to be out of time.

Step 1: Identify the model

Contact Automatic Door and Hardware to assist in identifying the proper Besam Swingmaster motor/gearbox needed.

Step 2: Remove the old Swingmaster motor/gearbox assembly

Shut the power off and close the door. Next fully screw in the thumbturn on the gerarbox so that the gearbox is locked in place. Carefully remove the arm off of the spindle. Remove the wire plugs from the control. Remove the motor/gearbox from the header.

Step 3: Install new Swingmaster motor/gearbox asssembly

Next, install the new motor/gearbox assembly into the header with the door closed. Attach the arm to the motor/gearbox spindle. Plug in the wire plugs into the control.

Step 4: Full unscrew thumbturn

Next unscrew the thumbturn fully. The new motor/gearbox assembly is now ready to operate.

Step 5: Check The Door

Next, power on the door operator and check the operation.

Installation For Overhead Concealed Models

IMPORTANT: Never remove the thumbturn on the gearbox unless you are at the proper step.

Shut the power off and push the door open to 90 degrees.

Next, install the new motor/gearbox assembly into the header. Plug in the wire plugs into the control. Flip the switch to "hold open position". Fully remove the thumbturn. Operator should wind up to full open position. Open door to 90 degrees and re-attach the arm to the motor/gearbox spindle.

Step 4: Check The Door

Next, power on the door operator and check the operation.
