Are Door Actuators Required By ADA?

Are Door Actuators Required By ADA? | Sales: [email protected]

Door actuators or automatic door openers are not required by the American Disabilities Act. The ADA does not require an automated entrance or exit. Adding an ADA door opener to any swing door does create a much easier access point not only for disabled person(s) but also high traffic. Using an actuator increases the ease for pedestrians with their hands full or carrying heavy or oversized objects to enter and exit a door. Making a storefront more accessible is always a fantastic way to increase traffic and business. By removing barriers that make it more difficult will keep a storefront up to date, and ahead of the curve of any future regulations. As laws, building codes, and ADA requirements constantly evolve, it would not be out of the ordinary for this to become a requirement for all commercial buildings. Always check with your local governments, building codes, and other entities to verify all current laws or codes are not in violation with your current storefront.

If you are in the market to purchase an ADA door opener, or you want to read further about installation instructions, electrical requirements, etc. you can follow the link here to our Commander ADA door opener where you will find cut sheets, specifications, architectural drawings, installation manuals, etc.
