What Is An Automatic Door Controller?
An
automatic door controller is a computer that controls all of the functions of the automatic door. The automatic door control is a printed circuit board often housed on an aluminum enclosure, to protect it from grounding. In this article we explain in depth what the automatic door controller is and how it works.
Microprocessor
Within each automatic door control is the most important component, the microprocessor chip. The microprocessor chip is programmable and executes all of the functions needed for an automatic door. For example, on an automatic door when a handicap push to open switch is activated, the signal is received by the microprocessor. The programmed instructions on the microprocessor tell it to provide voltage to the DC motor, allowing the door to open.
Power Supply and Voltage Regulator
On all automatic door controls is a
power supply section which provides power to the control board. The power supply is typically made up of a step down transformer designed to receive 110VAC and step it down to a lower voltage like 24VAC. A voltage regulator made up of Mosfet transistors help regulate the voltage.
Rectifier
When the voltage of the automatic door control is stepped down it must be converted to DC instead of AC. To do this a built in rectifier is used.
Low Voltage Accessories
Automatic door openers depend on
sensors and
activation switches which allow pedestrians to signal that they need the door to open. On automatic door controls a low voltage accessory terminal block is present allowing it to power automatic door sensors and receivers.
Dry Signal Inputs
Also on the accessory terminal board are Normally Open dry input contacts, so the automatic door sensor or handicap button can communicate with the automatic door controller.
