What Type Of Doromatic Astro Swing Operator Do I Have?

If you are looking to replace your existing Doromatic Astro Swing automatic door operator, the first question you may wonder is what model of Astro Swing do I have. In this article we explain how to determine which Astro Swing operator you need.

2 Types of Astro Swing Operators

The Doromatic Astro Swing was a very popular automatic swing door opener used in commercial grocery stores as full energy automatic swing doors as well as hospital applications as automatic door operators. Throughout the production life span of the Doromatic Astro Swing, there were really 2 versions; the microprocessor controlled type and the non-microprocessor controlled type.

Non-Microprocessor Controlled Astro Swing Operator

The early versions of the Astro Swing automatic door operator utilized a non-microprocessor control box. The motor and gearbox operator itself, is very easy to identify. The operator featured a metal plate located at the base of the operator around the arm spindle. This metal plate housed micro switches which communicated with the non-microprocessor control box to identify the position of the door as it swung opened or closed. A wire harness from these micro switches extends out of the metal box and at the end of the wire harness is a molex plug that is designed to connect to the non-computer control box.

Microprocessor Controlled Astro Swing Operator

The later versions of the Astro Swing automatic door operator utilized a microprocessor control box. The compatible motor and gearbox operator did not have a metal plate at the bottom of the gearbox near the spindle. All position tracking was done by either an external encoder on the dc motor or a concealed encoder within the dc motor.

The earlier microprocessor controlled Astro Swing operators used the dc motor with an internal concealed encoder which provided the position to the microprocess control box.

The later microprocessor controlled Astro Swing operators used a German brand dc motor. This dc motor was labeled Dunkermotoren and was offered in a 180V motor or a 240V motor.
